Axially conveying impellers serve a wide range of applications and are therefore among the most widely used impellers in agitation and mixing technology. The new axial Ecofoil-impeller leads to excellent process results with drastically reduced power demand.
With the Ecofoil impeller, Ekato is breaking new ground and offering a stirrer that is not subject to limitations related to traditional manufacturing technologies. The resulting freedom of design allows for highly efficient axial outflow with strongly reduced vortex shedding using complex three-dimensional geometries — curved blade with airfoil profile and twisting over the radius. This achieves an increase in the circulation rate of up to 40 % compared to conventional axial or pitch blade impellers with the same power input. Accordingly, the process times are shortened or the mixing qualities improved. Alternatively, significantly lower power settings are required for the same process results.
The development is based on parameter studies with numerical flow simulations and has been validated by extensive laboratory and pilot experiments. Novel additive manufacturing methods allow the economic implementation of complex geometries in the manufacture of agitators.
