SEW-EURODRIVE has been offering IE3 motors of the DRN… series since the end of 2014. This means that the company meets the efficiency requirements that are mandatory in accordance with the legal requirements that have been in force in Europe since January 1, 2015. Now the one millionth DRN.. motor has been awarded to a customer.
In 2009, the European legislator stipulated the minimum efficiency levels for the use of three-phase asynchronous motors in the European Economic Area in Regulation VO 640/2009. Initially, IE2 motors from 0.75 to 375 kW were required in a staggered timetable as of 16.06.2011. Since 01.01.2015, motors with an output of 7.5 to 375 kW for grid operation then had to be supplied in the IE3 energy-saving class. In the third stage, the EU increased the minimum efficiency to class IE3 as of 01.01.2017 already for motors in mains operation from 0.75 kW.
In February 2021, the company PRG Präzisions-Rührer GmbH from Warburg near Kassel ordered 20 identical KAF87 DRN112M4/TF bevel gear motors. With the third partial delivery, the series counter of the IE3 versions jumped over the limit of one million energy-saving motors delivered in Germany. The company’s managers would have liked to hand over the motor and an anniversary certificate to the customer in person, but this was not possible due to the pandemic situation. Instead, the handover to the managing partner of PRG Präziosions-Rührer GmbH, Frank Dierkes, took place digitally. Patrik Menges, sales management and Gregor Dietz, market manager for motors, handed over the bevel gear motor with certificate and additional identification plate on April 15, 2021 and thanked him for the order.
This quantity of motors represents a significant reduction in primary electrical energy required. Even if no reliable information is available on the time of use and the actual load and unload of the motors in the applications, a good estimate can be used to calculate a saving of more than 400 GWh. Expressed differently, this is more than 135,000 t CO2.
