In addition to the Comfort BU/BXU circulation pump, another Grundfos product has won an award at the German Design Award 2022. The Scala1 domestic waterworks won the internationally renowned design award in the category ‘Excellent Product Design — Energy’. With this award, the international jury recognizes groundbreaking design achievements. The basis of the evaluation is, among other things, functionality, usability, degree of innovation and sustainability. The Scala1 is a smart domestic waterworks unit that can be adjusted via smartphone for a wide range of applications in the home and garden. The German Design Award was presented at the official awards ceremony in February 2022.
The award honors innovative products, projects, manufacturers and designers whose design is groundbreaking and provides orientation in design. The award is presented by the German Design Council, which was founded in 1953 on the initiative of the German Bundestag and, as an independently operating foundation, is one of the leading international centers of excellence for communication and brand management in the field of design. More than 260 companies are members of the foundation, and the jury is made up of high-caliber international members.
The Scala1, which won an award for its groundbreaking design, is a smart, versatile all-in-one solution for domestic water supply and garden irrigation. The system, which can be used for both stationary and mobile applications, is extremely compact, has a particularly quiet water-cooled motor, and can be installed directly outdoors with IPx4D class splash water protection without the need for additional enclosures. Numerous integrated protective features ensure trouble-free operation, including motor, dry-running and flooding protection. In addition, the Scala1 es has a manually switchable venting function for wells with high gas content.
Groundbreaking features include versatility and straightforward operation. In addition to normal operation with factory settings, the domestic waterworks becomes a multi-talent via an integrated Bluetooth interface and the free Grundfos Go Remote app. The intuitive app provides, for example, an integrated weekly timer that can be used to set an individual irrigation program. Additional options are offered by a function input, via which rain or soil moisture sensors can be used to control the irrigation. The app can also be used to individually set protection parameters and perform firmware updates to take advantage of future function enhancements.
“For domestic waterworks, the trend is toward smart, installer-friendly complete solutions. The Scala1 is leading the way in this development. That’s why we’re particularly pleased that our smart domestic waterworks won this year’s German Design Award.”
