Following a series of optimization measures at its Center of Excellence in Oelde, Gea has already began significantly reducing the general repair times of its separators. Infrastructure and organizational improvements, as well as the appointment of an Assessment Coordinator, have enabled numerous synergies, resulting in inspection and repair times being reduced by up to 40% worldwide. For particularly urgent cases, the company is now offering a Fast Lane Service, which enables affected separators to be repaired in less than 10 days, depending on the requirements.
Even the short-term breakdown of a separator can, in worst-case scenarios, halt the entire production which can result in heavy economic losses for companies. Such situations require quick analysis and repair. In most instances, the separator must be transported to a certified Gea workshop to ensure authorized repair by the original manufacturer, which includes the necessary safety tests. Shipment, reporting, repair, inspection and return require a certain time frame, which can be bridged via bowl rentals or spare parts – however, this is not always the optimal solution for customers. The company has therefore developed a Fast Lane Service for particularly urgent repairs, which are handled by a dedicated team who take care of these prioritized requests. These employees work alongside Gea’s regular diagnostic and repair service teams, but have the advantage of being able to exclusively handle prioritized cases more quickly. The Fast Lane Service is offered for separators in all application areas with a surcharge based on bowl diameter.
The Fast Lane offer is currently limited due to capacity and time considerations. For this reason, a small steering team will decide on the urgency of each repair based on diverse criteria. Once a repair is prioritized, the operational team takes over the order, managing the entire process which includes cooperating with the specialist departments as well as arranging for the dispatch of parts and repaired machines – reducing overall lead times by up to 80%. With its considerable reduction in repair times and optional Fast Lane offer, Gea has achieved an important improvement in its service which is a clear plus for customer satisfaction.

Innovative distance coupling

The “Simple-Flex” series from Jakob Antriebstechnik is a novel, innovative distance coupling that can be manufactured up to 6m in length and requires no additional intermediate support. An ingenious composite tube with a multi-layer, angle-specific fiber configuration allows for a particularly simple design that works without the otherwise necessary coupling compensation elements on the two tube ends. With elaborate simulation calculations and test series, a composite pipe has been developed which has both flexural flexibility and high torsional rigidity. The very low weight and the associated low moments of inertia can guarantee the highest operating speeds and torques with excellent smoothness, without neglecting the compensation of shaft misalignments.
“Simple-Flex” is available with either rotationally symmetrical cone clamping ring clamping or with assembly-friendly half-shell hub. The two available composite pipe sizes cover torques up to 1000 Nm.

Subsidiary offers sales, service and support
New Branch Office in France
On October 01, 2019 Viscotec opened a new branch in Mérignac, Bordeaux. The office in France is already the fifth Viscotec subsidiary worldwide.
It is planned to be a sales, service and support organization that will distribute and support both ViscoTec and preeflow products. VT France pursues essential goals: On the one hand, the presence of Viscotec in Europe is to be strengthened, the European sales structure is to be expanded and the French market is to be opened up. But also, the proximity to the customer and the direct contact to the end user are important factors. Viscotec also sees great potential in the French market and wants to exploit it as much as possible. Important sectors the subsidiary will focus on are – amongst others – the cosmetics, automotive and aerospace industry.
The branch manager and local contact is Christophe Lalanne, who has known Viscotec for many years and is very familiar with the products. Christophe has a technical degree with a focus on chemistry and specialization in bonding and adhesives. Christophe is also a “European Bonding Specialist”. From 2007 to 2011 he worked in sales and primarily focused on applications and solutions in the field of bonding. Since 2011 he has been employed as product manager for applications in the adhesives sector and thus also got to know the dispensers from Viscotec.
“We have known Christophe for a long time, and we trust him. We are sure that he will be able to bring Viscotec to the top in France and establish ViscoTec as a synonym for dispensing technology there,” says Georg Senftl, Managing Director of Viscotec .
