Especially in the fall, dim light, fog or rain make for poor visibility on construction sites. To ensure safe working conditions, it is important that construction sites and traffic routes are well illuminated with artificial light. To prevent wet leaves from becoming a slip hazard, paths, scaffolding and floors should be regularly cleared of them. If the dampness or even frost after cooler nights adds to the risk, it is advisable to blunt all stairs, ladders and walkways to make them non-slip. Tarps on scaffolding further protect construction workers from rain and wind. To be well prepared for the autumn weather, NÜRNBERGER Versicherung recommends planning and implementing appropriate measures as early as the end of the summer.
Not without protective equipment
Construction companies are required by the Occupational Health and Safety Act to provide workers on construction sites with protective clothing free of charge. The relevant regulations can be found in the “Ordinance on Safety and Health Protection in the Use of Personal Protective Equipment at Work” (PPE Use Ordinance). Employees’ personal protective equipment should be adapted to the weather conditions in the fall. Weatherproof clothing not only protects against the cold, but also prevents chronic joint and respiratory diseases. Heavily profiled protective footwear provides additional grip and reduces the risk of slipping. Further specifications, for example with regard to color or the necessary warning class of clothing, depend on the individual workplace. Employers are also obliged under Section 3 of the PPE Use Ordinance to explain the correct use of the equipment to their employees, informs NÜRNBERGER Versicherung.
Cover via the company: GF and BU as part of an occupational pension scheme.
The workplace on the construction site itself and the usually heavy physical work, often under time pressure, pose an increased risk of illness or accident. But employers can protect the health of their employees not only by taking safety precautions. With a company basic disability insurance (GF) or company occupational disability insurance (BU), such as those offered by NÜRNBERGER Versicherung, employers can offer their employees additional coverage. The advantages: Favorable premiums through a group contract as well as greatly simplified health questions. In addition, the contributions are fully deductible as business expenses for the company. With a GF or BU as part of a company pension plan (bAV), employers can express their appreciation for their workforce and promote employee loyalty.
