In accordance with the Profibus and Profinet International (PI) specifications, the new Profinet Power Hub gateway module from Pepperl+Fuchs qualifies as a Profinet proxy to Profibus PA. This enables smooth end-to-end digital communication between Profinet and Profibus PA using the latest generation of gateway, representing a crucial step toward the future and Industry 4.0.
Convenient Engineering Thanks to Driver Library
The proxy technology means that devices can be quickly and easily integrated into any common control panel via Profinet. Configuration is especially simple thanks to an innovative driver library for PCS 7 and S400 control panels. The driver ensures that vital functions are provided automatically, with the driver library sorting all process, status, and diagnostic data from the Profibus PA instruments and automatically creating common alarms in accordance with the Namur traffic-light system, NE 107. Configuration and diagnosis of the gateway itself is also greatly simplified. Initialization is only carried out at the system’s runtime, so that the gateway does not require its own configuration and can be easily replaced. This reduces complexity and saves time and costs during planning and maintenance.
Equipped for the Future
With the new gateway, process plants are perfectly equipped for future technologies. The electrical installation is fully compatible with APL, the new physical layer for Ethernet that is now in the process of standardization. From the specification of the cable to the topology and the explosion-protection method, everything can remain as it is. Therefore, FieldConnex Power Hubs with Profinet gateways are not only the optimal choice for new plants, they are also the most economical solution for adapting existing systems to the demands of the future with minimum effort.
