Profinet Gateway with Driver Library

In accor­dance with the Profibus and Profinet Inter­na­tion­al (PI) spec­i­fi­ca­tions, the new Profinet Pow­er Hub gate­way mod­ule from Pepperl+Fuchs qual­i­fies as a Profinet proxy to Profibus PA. This enables smooth end-to-end dig­i­tal com­mu­ni­ca­tion between Profinet and Profibus PA using the lat­est gen­er­a­tion of gate­way, rep­re­sent­ing a cru­cial step toward the future and Indus­try 4.0.

Convenient Engineering Thanks to Driver Library

The proxy tech­nol­o­gy means that devices can be quick­ly and eas­i­ly inte­grat­ed into any com­mon con­trol pan­el via Profinet. Con­fig­u­ra­tion is espe­cial­ly sim­ple thanks to an inno­v­a­tive dri­ver library for PCS 7 and S400 con­trol pan­els. The dri­ver ensures that vital func­tions are pro­vid­ed auto­mat­i­cal­ly, with the dri­ver library sort­ing all process, sta­tus, and diag­nos­tic data from the Profibus PA instru­ments and auto­mat­i­cal­ly cre­at­ing com­mon alarms in accor­dance with the Namur traf­fic-light sys­tem, NE 107. Con­fig­u­ra­tion and diag­no­sis of the gate­way itself is also great­ly sim­pli­fied. Ini­tial­iza­tion is only car­ried out at the sys­tem’s run­time, so that the gate­way does not require its own con­fig­u­ra­tion and can be eas­i­ly replaced. This reduces com­plex­i­ty and saves time and costs dur­ing plan­ning and maintenance.

Equipped for the Future

With the new gate­way, process plants are per­fect­ly equipped for future tech­nolo­gies. The elec­tri­cal instal­la­tion is ful­ly com­pat­i­ble with APL, the new phys­i­cal lay­er for Eth­er­net that is now in the process of stan­dard­iza­tion. From the spec­i­fi­ca­tion of the cable to the topol­o­gy and the explo­sion-pro­tec­tion method, every­thing can remain as it is. There­fore, Field­Con­nex Pow­er Hubs with Profinet gate­ways are not only the opti­mal choice for new plants, they are also the most eco­nom­i­cal solu­tion for adapt­ing exist­ing sys­tems to the demands of the future with min­i­mum effort.
