Ensinger’s portfolio is being expanded in the field of thermoplastic composites. A double belt press (DBP) was recently commissioned at the Cham production site. The plant enables the efficient production of a wide variety of fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composite materials. These include, for example, organic sheets, i.e. multilayer, fully impregnated and consolidated fiber-reinforced composites.
In addition to the existing product range for high-temperature applications, Ensinger can mass-produce thermoplastic composites in high volumes at lower temperatures on the new machine. With a working width of up to 1800 mm, the double belt press also processes unidirectional (UD) materials, UD cross-ply materials, laminates and sandwich laminates with various core materials such as foam or honeycomb.
Various combinations of textiles and polymer matrix materials, including carbon, glass, aramid and natural fibers, are feasible. Powder scattering and film impregnation are possible as impregnation technologies. The tailor-made technical and economic solutions are predestined for customer projects in the automotive sector and other industries. In addition, Ensinger offers the processing of contract manufacturing orders.
With a polymer powder mill installed at the Cham branch plant, a prepreg plant and the new DBP, Ensinger has recently invested several times in expanding its production capacities. The product range now includes polymer powders, continuous fiber-reinforced semi-pregs and prepregs, organic sheets as well as compression molded sheets and finished parts made from a wide variety of material combinations.
“We are able to offer our customers a broad composite product portfolio and the appropriate engineering services from a single source. Thanks not least to recent investments, the Ensinger Group is excellently positioned as a strategic player in the thermoplastic composites market.”
