SIG recently installed a new combidome filling machine at Framptons, a company specializing in co-packaging solutions: the first of its kind in the UK. The company will use it, for example, to support companies active in the plant-based drinks sector — such as the start-up Lilk, which will be one of the first in the UK to fill innovative plant-based drinks in SIG’s unique combidome carton bottle.
Demand for innovation in the plant-based products sector is growing rapidly in the UK. Much of the growth is coming from young, dynamic start-ups, often starting with small volumes. Working closely with the team, they now have the opportunity to package their products in the carton bottle and be guided through the entire production process to bring exciting plant-based innovations to market.
This bottle is an eye-catcher in the plant-based drinks sector. Lilk will launch two plant-based drinks in combidome: The Common Blend Oat & Rice and The Lush Blend Oat, Coconut & Quinoa. With Framptons as co-packer, the company can clearly differentiate the new products, which are made from seeds and grains, and ensure they stand out in this packaging solution.
“We are the first in the UK to offer manufacturers specializing in plant-based drinks, such as Lilk, the opportunity to use combidome. Both the aesthetics and functionality signify innovation in the carton packaging sector. The carton bottle also has a good environmental footprint. The two new beverages immediately catch the eye and offer consumers good attributes of a carton pack and a bottle.”

Russ Lisle, Key Account Manager UK & Ireland at SIG, says: “Over the past five years, there has been a massive increase in demand for plant-based drinks. The UK is leading the way. More and more consumers are switching from traditional dairy products. Our partnership with Framptons can offer smaller plant-based drink innovators the opportunity to highlight their new products in the marketplace and clearly differentiate their products from the competition with our bottle.”
The new partnership provides a platform in the UK and Irish markets to deliver innovative product and packaging solutions to meet the ever-changing demands of the markets.
