Trials in the hydrogenation test center allow the evaluation of reliable data for the design and scale up of production plants. In the hydrogenation test center manufacturing processes can be investigated by variation of process parameters like pressure, temperature and agitator speed or by variation of recipes and operation modes. Also the design can be modified, e.g. the impeller type or reactor internals as additional heat exchangers, in order to optimize the process targets like hydrogenation time, yield or selectivity.
For this purpose, Ekato conducts experiments in batch sizes of 3 and 60 liter. The reactors may be equipped with standard impellers as well as with the specific, high efficient Ekato gassing impellers Phasejet and Gasjet. The 3 liter reactor units can be transported together with an integrated control unit and a heating-cooling-system, so it is possible to conduct experiments at customer’s site. The material of construction is stainless steel 316L. The 60 liter unit comprises the reactor, a vessel for the starting product, a filtration unit and a filtrate tank. Through incorporation into a process control system, the various process steps can be automated and reproducibly carried out.
