Verkehrsbetriebe Karlsruhe GmbH (VBK) provides day and night public transportation for the city of Karlsruhe in Baden-Württemberg through a streetcar and bus network. This requires, among other things, the operation of a very extensive infrastructure of lines and cables. In order to manage these in a uniform, consistent and efficient manner, the Karlsruhe public transport authority decided to use the cable and line documentation system from the software company Asseco BERIT GmbH.
The system for cable and line documentation, based on the Asseco software solutions SAMO EAM (Enterprise Asset Management) and SAMO LIDS (GIS & Equipment Management), enables the Karlsruhe transport authority to collect, document, update and report on the entire cable and line infrastructure in the electricity and telecommunications sectors. And this in a uniform, standardized, digitalized manner and according to the current state of the art.
“Many aspects of the Asseco solution concept were convincing, such as central data storage, CAD integration, specific cable route and routing functions, Telco modules with fiber management, usability also for our tunnel systems, as well as the system’s procedural component for planning and construction processes” Elmar Adam, IT Project Manager, Verkehrsbetriebe Karlsruhe GmbH.
Users of Asseco’s software solution will be employees of the Karlsruhe public transport authority who are involved in the planning and construction of new systems or in modifications to existing systems on the one hand, and in documentation, information and maintenance during operation on the other.
Currently, the documentation and management of line and cable installations is carried out in different systems and formats, as the departments of the Karlsruhe public transport authority work with different methods and approaches. In the future, the system for cable and line documentation from Asseco will create a uniform, consistent and powerful documentation and information basis for all those involved in the areas of planning, maintenance and information.
The project will be implemented in an agile manner over the next 9 months. The modularity of Asseco’s platform will enable Verkehrsbetriebe Karlsruhe to implement additional strategic and operational SAMO modules to expand the scope of functions in the future, if required.
