Modern system for cable and line documentation at the Karlsruhe transport authority 

Verkehrs­be­triebe Karl­sruhe GmbH (VBK) pro­vides day and night pub­lic trans­porta­tion for the city of Karl­sruhe in Baden-Würt­tem­berg through a street­car and bus net­work. This requires, among oth­er things, the oper­a­tion of a very exten­sive infra­struc­ture of lines and cables. In order to man­age these in a uni­form, con­sis­tent and effi­cient man­ner, the Karl­sruhe pub­lic trans­port author­i­ty decid­ed to use the cable and line doc­u­men­ta­tion sys­tem from the soft­ware com­pa­ny Asseco BERIT GmbH. 

The sys­tem for cable and line doc­u­men­ta­tion, based on the Asseco soft­ware solu­tions SAMO EAM (Enter­prise Asset Man­age­ment) and SAMO LIDS (GIS & Equip­ment Man­age­ment), enables the Karl­sruhe trans­port author­i­ty to col­lect, doc­u­ment, update and report on the entire cable and line infra­struc­ture in the elec­tric­i­ty and telecom­mu­ni­ca­tions sec­tors. And this in a uni­form, stan­dard­ized, dig­i­tal­ized man­ner and accord­ing to the cur­rent state of the art.

Users of Assec­o’s soft­ware solu­tion will be employ­ees of the Karl­sruhe pub­lic trans­port author­i­ty who are involved in the plan­ning and con­struc­tion of new sys­tems or in mod­i­fi­ca­tions to exist­ing sys­tems on the one hand, and in doc­u­men­ta­tion, infor­ma­tion and main­te­nance dur­ing oper­a­tion on the other. 

Cur­rent­ly, the doc­u­men­ta­tion and man­age­ment of line and cable instal­la­tions is car­ried out in dif­fer­ent sys­tems and for­mats, as the depart­ments of the Karl­sruhe pub­lic trans­port author­i­ty work with dif­fer­ent meth­ods and approach­es. In the future, the sys­tem for cable and line doc­u­men­ta­tion from Asseco will cre­ate a uni­form, con­sis­tent and pow­er­ful doc­u­men­ta­tion and infor­ma­tion basis for all those involved in the areas of plan­ning, main­te­nance and information. 

The project will be imple­ment­ed in an agile man­ner over the next 9 months. The mod­u­lar­i­ty of Assec­o’s plat­form will enable Verkehrs­be­triebe Karl­sruhe to imple­ment addi­tion­al strate­gic and oper­a­tional SAMO mod­ules to expand the scope of func­tions in the future, if required.
