In order to work out the concept for a hydrogenation reactor and the basic engineering of the hydrogenation plant, the operating data and the related chemical and process parameters must be available. These can be determined and optimized in the new Hydrogenation Test Center of Ekato. For this purpose, laboratory autoclaves of 3 liters and a hydrogenation reactor made of Alloy C22 with a filling volume of 60 liters are available. Both can be operated at up to 100 barg and 250 °C. The flexible concept of this pilot plant not only allows a realistic replication of the actual hydrogenation reaction, but also the investigation of the catalyst handling system including the catalyst separation.
On the basis of this information, Ekato carries out the scale-up, designs the required process equipment, develops an individual plant concept in close consultation with the customer and estimates the investment costs. An experienced team of engineers specifies the plant equipment in the following Basic Engineering phase to a level ready for procurement. Additionally, the plant layout and the safety concept are worked out, HAZOPs are conducted and the final investment costs for the entire plant are precisely determined. If required, the company also provides the entire engineering services for the hydrogenation plant in parts or in total: the detail engineering, the supply of the key equipment as well as installation and commissioning support. This includes the qualification of the hydrogenation plant if it is to work under GMP conditions later.
