The high-temperature gaskets from the novaphit and novamica product families feature the high-quality materials graphite and phlogopite mica. In combination with intelligent expanded metal inserts they guarantee high sealing performance in extreme operating conditions. Both product families now include materials on reels.
In order to meet legal requirements such as TA Luft (German Clean Air Act) in conjunction with VDI directive 2290, gaskets must have very exceptional tightness characteristics. Frenzelit uses high-quality, expanded pure graphite as a gasket material in novaphit for this purpose. novaphit also has outstanding chemical, thermal (-200 to +550 °C) and mechanical resistance.
novaphit: Pure graphite – resistant to oxidation
A specific and controlled selection of raw materials guarantees that only high-quality graphite is used in the production process. This raw material ensures that novaphit is very resistant to oxidation throughout the entire application temperature range. novaphit thus satisfies the stringent quality requirements of DIN 28091–4, which permits max. 4% volume loss per hour at 670 °C from oxidation. Many commercially available graphite gaskets are much more susceptible to oxidation.
The use of XP technology further minimizes mass loss under identical conditions to no more than 3%. This is possible thanks to inorganic nanoparticles, which provide compact, chemically inert and temperature-resistant protection and enhance the oxidation properties of the gasket material.
Intelligent stainless steel insert
novaphit users also benefit from the corrosion and acid-resistant stainless steel expanded metal insert. Unlike graphite gaskets with tanged or flat metal inserts, this insert is especially characterized by its optimized surface pressure distribution thanks to intelligent insert geometry with a three-dimensional lattice structure. The advantage here is that surface pressure is increased both above the lattice structure and in the cavities for maximum sealing performance.
novamica: For high-temperature applications
novamica gaskets made from optimized phlogopite mica are suitable for use in extremely high-temperature applications. For example, unlike muscovite mica, which undergoes calcination at 600 °C, phlogopite-based novamica gaskets remain stable up to 1,000 °C. This makes the material extremely temperature resistant and gives it its high chemical resistance.
The adaptable and highly flexible material is very easy to process and guarantees reliable sealing performance even with complex gasket geometries. Mica in combination with an effective binder system and expanded metal inserts is the basis for a wide range of applications, e.g. in the process industry or automotive sector.
