The process and automation technology used in the pharmaceutical, food and biotechnology industry requires precisely measured values of the current flow rate for numerous work steps. Other sectors where fluids and gases are dosed and filtered also depend on such data. Flowave sensors from Bürkert, which operate with innovative Saw technology, have already proven their worth in many hygienic applications.
The sensors (Type 8098) have now been further developed and, in addition to precise flow measurement, also provide additional information: for instance, integrated gas bubble detection ensures a fast response in the event of process faults. The density factor enables the quick identification of fluid changeovers. Furthermore, viscosity compensation facilitates precise measurements, also with high viscosity fluids. These additional parameters enhance process reliability and stability and improve product quality. Besides Bürkert’s system bus (büS), the standard protocols Canopen and Industrial Ethernet (Profinet, Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP) are supported to guarantee future-proof digital communication.
Flexible multi-talent for hygienic applications
The flow meter operates according to the patented Saw process (Surface Acoustic Waves), which uses surface waves to perform measurements. With this process, there are no installed fittings or constrictions, which also means there are no empty spaces in the measuring tube. In addition, there is no contact between the sensor elements and the medium, thus making the process ideal for hygienic applications. Incorporating various measurement parameters in just one sensor additionally reduces the number of contamination-prone screw connections in the plant and lowers maintenance costs. Tri-clamps, hygiene flanges and SMS clamps or hygienic fittings are available for the process connection. Versions with Atex + IEC-Ex for Zone 2 are currently being prepared.
