Over the past few months, a 5,000-square-meter logistics center has been built on 11,800 square meters of the site on Hamburger Straße, with 12,300 additional pallet spaces in mobile racks and 15 tall silos for the storage and filling of free-flowing goods. Instead of July, as initially planned, the acceptance took place in May of this year — just under nine months after the groundbreaking ceremony.
GREIWING in Duisburg now has more than 80,000 pallet storage spaces and 27 silos. “The fact that the great development in Duisburg is continuing is also thanks to the consistent investments in the site,” says Jürgen Greiwing, Managing Partner. As recently as 2019, the company had expanded its storage capacities by 8,000 pallet spaces.
A rapid development and a close partnership
As in the past for six other projects, the logistics service provider relied on GOLDBECK Münster as a partner for the construction. “As a satisfied regular customer, we know what we get here from a single source. Every project so far has been a pleasure and I am sure it will be the same in the future,” says the contern about the general contractor.
The latter repaid the trust placed in him by erecting the spacious logistics building — with space for pallet storage in mobile racks, picking area, a silage area and a filling area with three filling silos — in record time. In addition, a further high-silo warehouse consisting of twelve silos, each with a capacity of 355 cubic meters, is now located outside. Here GREIWING stores and processes free-flowing goods from the chemical and plastics industries up to water hazard class (WGK) 1 in accordance with HACCP and GMP standards.
It is also emphasized that the end of the development has not yet been reached: “With our entire group of companies, we continue to pursue ambitious goals. We want to continue to grow in the interest of our customers and thus offer them higher capacities and more possibilities. We are far from having reached our goal with this.”
Reliable planning — high-quality, fast implementation
Christian Terwey, Branch Manager GOLDBECK Münster, is pleased about the ongoing partnership: “The greatest praise, of course, is always the next order. Then we know that we are doing many things right.” GOLDBECK builds for the company nationwide, distinguishing itself above all through reliable planning and high-quality yet fast implementation. In Duisburg, too, the team did such a good job with all trades throughout the entire period that it became clear over the winter: The planned acceptance date in May will be beaten by almost two months.
This agility is needed in the logistics industry, where storage space has to be available quickly. Andreas Wermelt, project manager, attributes the success to the special, systematized construction method: “In our plants, we prefabricate modular precast concrete elements. On the construction site, these elements are then simply assembled according to the Lego principle.” This, he says, makes for extreme flexibility and a consistently high standard for all requirements.
