Nuvo-8111 is a newly developed series of cost-effective computing platforms that are uncompromisingly geared towards AI use. Now available through German distributor Acceed in several equipment combinations, the industrial box computer impresses with its three expansion slots and support for a high-end graphics card from Nvidia, for example the RTX 3060/3060 Ti. With GPU performance of up to 20 TFLOPS (benchmarked with FP32), performance and efficiency can be noticeably increased in factory automation, image recognition and optical in-line production inspection, pick-and-place robot control, and new GPU-accelerated applications in general.
The GPU (Graphics Processing Unit), unlike the general CPU, is a processor specialized and optimized for computing graphics. The many smaller processor cores of the GPU, which are designed for more specialized tasks, show their strength in interaction when data processing processes can be divided among many cores. With the CUDA programming interface developed by Nvidia for highly parallelizable program sequences, significant performance increases can be achieved when processed by the GPU. At the same time, the CPU is relieved and is available for other tasks. Industrial applications benefit in the area of intelligent image analysis, for example for robot control, the coordination of vehicles and transport systems, but also in process analysis and complex simulations.
Depending on the equipment variant, the new Nuvo-8111 AI computing platform operates with the 9th or 8th generation Intel processor with H310 chipset. It features a x16 Gen3 PCIe slot to accommodate a GPU card, as well as an additional x4 PCIe and a PCI slot for industrial I/O cards such as DIO, AIO, communications or motion control cards. Inputs and outputs are installed directly on the front panel, including two GbE interfaces, four ports of USB 3.1 Gen1 and five COM ports. This keeps access convenient for installation and flexible customization during operation, even when installed in a control cabinet or rack. Storage options include two slots for 2.5‑inch SATA hard drives (SSD or HDD) and an mSATA socket to accommodate an mSATA SSD.
