R. Stahl puts its outstanding lighting technology expertise to good use, supporting plant operators during the planning, installation, programming and commissioning of digitally networked lighting systems in hazardous areas. Now, the explosion protection expert has expanded its range, adding modern explosion-protected lighting systems with Dali interfaces. The new Exlux variants correspond to the Dali standard according to IEC 62386 and are specifically designed for consistent lighting management for general and emergency lighting, even up to Zone 1 explosion protection. As well as safety and emergency lighting, the range includes particularly durable, energy efficient linear luminaires that can be installed as ceiling, pendant or pole mounted light fittings.

These luminaires, from the Exlux 6002/4, 6402/4, 6009/4 and 6409/4 ranges, are designed to function for over 100,000 operating hours at a maximum ambient temperature of +60 °C and achieve excellent light output values up to 145 lm/W. Thanks to the use of bidirectional Dali communication, around 200 programmable commands can be configured, allowing operators to set different intensity values and dimming behaviour for individual light fittings or luminaire groups. In addition, status and functional data can be transmitted to the bus master. The Dali standard makes it easier to integrate external sensors for presence or daylight control and offers additional functions for continuous data storage (NVM), device identification, light value detection and error diagnosis. The automatic retrieval of switching states, error messages and brightness values supports forward-looking maintenance concepts. For location-independent remote monitoring, data can be managed using a web browser or smartphone app. The safety and emergency lighting monitoring function encompasses both the light fittings and the battery status. This means that the Dali function is automatically switched off in a situation requiring emergency lighting. R. Stahl supplies its Dali light fitting variants as devices suitable for hard-wired networking using the Dali 24 V DC bus. Ex d protected empty enclosures are available for installing a Dali master in a hazardous area.

R. Stahl’s new explosion-protected Ex d EXpressure enclosure technology is a futureproof alternative to conventional enclosure encapsulation. Complete switchgear assemblies and distribution boards can be housed in a single EXpressure enclosure, saving significant amounts of space and weight and making maintenance a whole lot easier. Components can be quickly retrofitted, modified or removed at any time and with little difficulty. The innovative Atex- and IECEx-certified EXpressure switch cabinet series features a unique pressure relief system. Special stainless steel wire mesh ensures that pressure within the enclosure can be reduced effectively, serving as a flameproof barrier that allows for a controlled flow of gas coupled with heat absorption. This reduces the internal pressure in the event of an explosion to a maximum value of less than 1 bar; sparks that might otherwise cause an explosion are safely contained inside the enclosure thanks to the special mesh structure.

The Ex d-certified pressure-relief technology allows for wall thicknesses of just 2 mm; compared to conventional Ex d flameproof enclosures, thereby helps to save space requirement and up to 50% weight. Additionally, this makes transportation, handling and installation significantly easier. The EXpressure concept also proves to be a viable alternative and has many attributes when compared with Ex p pressurized enclosures – it is more efficient and involves far less design work. R. Stahl’s stainless steel enclosure with EXpressure technology comes in a choice of four enclosure sizes, ranging from 300 x 400 x 200 mm to 1000 x 1400 x 700 mm. These IP66-rated switch cabinets are available with either a single-leaf door or a double door. The large, undivided space inside the enclosure provides easy, unobstructed access for installation, maintenance and inspection work. The volume available within the enclosure for installing equipment is identical to that of many conventional industrial switch cabinets and control boxes and allows the switchgear layout used for non-hazardous areas to be used unchanged for hazardous areas without any additional engineering work.
