Green Star Packaging Award

With sus­tain­able solu­tions and a strong focus on resource con­ser­va­tion, lead­ing pack­ag­ing com­pa­ny Cov­eris takes com­pre­hen­sive respon­si­bil­i­ty for the envi­ron­ment. The company’s unique ‘No Waste’ vision was hon­oured with a Green Pack­ag­ing Star Award last week.

On Thurs­day 29th Sep­tem­ber 2022, Cov­eris, a lead­ing Euro­pean pack­ag­ing com­pa­ny man­u­fac­tur­ing flex­i­ble and sus­tain­able solu­tions for glob­al brands, won the pres­ti­gious Green Pack­ag­ing Star Award in the Envi­ron­men­tal­ly Friend­ly Cor­po­rate Strat­e­gy cat­e­go­ry. The pack­ag­ing com­pa­ny has built its entire sus­tain­abil­i­ty strat­e­gy around its vision of No Waste – no prod­uct waste, no pack­ag­ing waste, and no oper­a­tional waste – focus­ing exten­sive­ly on resource con­ser­va­tion. Cov­eris already pro­duces pack­ag­ing incor­po­rat­ing recy­cled con­tent, mate­r­i­al-sav­ing light­weight solu­tions, as well as a wide range of easy recy­clable mono­ma­te­ri­als. Addi­tion­al­ly, the pack­ag­ing man­u­fac­tur­er is aim­ing to run all pro­duc­tion sites with renew­able energy.

Two fur­ther nom­i­na­tions for inno­v­a­tive pack­ag­ing solutions 

Cov­eris’ relent­less com­mit­ment to min­imis­ing the envi­ron­men­tal impact of its prod­ucts is vis­i­ble through its lat­est prod­uct inno­va­tions. Recog­nis­ing this, two of Cov­eris’ pack­ag­ing tech­nolo­gies were also final­ists in this year’s Green Pack­ag­ing Star Awards: Paper­Bar­ri­er Seal and MonoFlex.

The sus­tain­able Paper­Bar­ri­er Seal solu­tion was short­list­ed in the Envi­ron­men­tal­ly Friend­ly Prod­uct cat­e­go­ry. Launched in 2021, this inno­v­a­tive pack­ag­ing is a ful­ly recy­clable high-per­for­mance pack­ag­ing that pro­vides a bar­ri­er against mois­ture, oxy­gen, grease and min­er­al oil.

To coun­ter­act mul­ti­lay­er packaging’s recy­cling prob­lem, Cov­eris devel­oped the MonoFlex prod­uct line. Made from mono­ma­te­r­i­al, this pack­ag­ing is ful­ly recy­clable, with­out com­pro­mis­ing on qual­i­ty. This prod­uct inno­va­tion secured a spot among the final­ists in the Solu­tion for Food Pro­tec­tion category.

The Green Pack­ag­ing Star Awards

The Green Pack­ag­ing Star Awards have been held annu­al­ly since 2008 and are pre­sent­ed by the mag­a­zine Kom­pack and the Aus­tri­an Research Insti­tute for Chem­istry and Tech­nol­o­gy. This year’s award cer­e­mo­ny took place at the trade show, Fach­Pack, in Nurem­berg, Ger­many from 27th to 29th Sep­tem­ber 2022. The annu­al Green Pack­ag­ing Star Awards cel­e­brate sus­tain­able pack­ag­ing solu­tions, as well as pack­ag­ing-relat­ed inno­va­tions in the oper­a­tional process. Across four cat­e­gories, the most envi­ron­men­tal­ly friend­ly prod­ucts, best com­pa­ny philoso­phies and pro­duc­tion process­es in the pack­ag­ing indus­try are honoured.

We are con­vinced that we are mak­ing an impor­tant con­tri­bu­tion to pro­tect­ing our cli­mate with our No Waste vision, which is char­ac­terised by an approach in two dimen­sions: On one hand avoid­ance of prod­uct waste, pack­ag­ing waste and oper­a­tional waste and on the oth­er hand the involve­ment of the entire Cov­eris organ­i­sa­tion from the shop floor via the group-wide Green Teams, to the man­age­ment lev­el and exec­u­tive board. The award we received and the fact that two oth­er Cov­eris prod­ucts were among the final­ists makes us very proud. This is an award for our employ­ees as, after all, they are work­ing every day to make our vision of a more sus­tain­able future a reality”.
