The fledgling Rheinmetall subsidiary Zeppelin Mobile Systeme GmbH (ZMS) has been commissioned by the German armed forces to provide and integrate state-of-the-art medical technology into the medical supply facility of the German armed forces’ “Camp Castor” field camp in Gao, Mali. The order has a total volume in the low double-digit million euro range. The material will be supplied in the second half of the year and integration on site in Mali is planned for the end of the year.
In addition to the provision and integration of the high-quality medical technology into the fixed infrastructure of the field camp in Gao, the service package in this order also includes training of personnel, comprehensive documentation services and a service and maintenance package.
“Even in these challenging times, we want to live up to our claim of being the Bundeswehr’s first point of contact when it comes to high-quality requirements in the field of mobile medical services. We offer a wide range of products, from the extensive integration of advanced medical technology to the provision of complete turnkey field hospitals. The contract we have now been awarded to equip the medical treatment facility in the field camp in GAO with state-of-the-art medical technology underscores our claim, but above all it is an obligation for us to reliably do our part to ensure the best possible medical care for our soldiers in the field.”
- Hauke H. Bindzus, CEO
Rheinmetall acquired the shares in Zeppelin Mobile Systeme GmbH, a company based in Meckenbeuren in the Lake Constance region, in November 2021. This acquisition follows the strategic decision to significantly expand the range of services related to customers’ international deployment commitments with the International Projects and Services business unit. ZMS is contributing its many years of expertise in the field of medical technology and mobile medical services.
Beyond the field of medicine, ZMS is the leading manufacturer of individual customer-specific shelter solutions for a wide range of applications in the security and defense industry. The high-quality shelter concepts are used particularly frequently in the field of military supply, for example in field kitchens, decontamination systems or mobile repair facilities, as well as in military communications technology The company is already a direct or indirect supplier to the German armed forces in several projects and programs.
With its new International Projects and Services business unit, which includes Rheinmetall Project Solutions GmbH and also ZMS GmbH, Rheinmetall has repositioned itself in a key international market. In future, the Rheinmnetall business unit will pool resources and capabilities for services such as mission support, depot organization or ammunition waste disposal. The aim is to provide customers with long-term support for their missions, including specific services. Rheinmetall’s aspiration is to act as a “one-stop store”. For example, Rheinmetall can plan and build field camps for deployment, create hardened areas, provide surveillance including state-of-the-art sensors and robotics, operate the field camp including the necessary logistics services and provision of personnel, and dismantle it at the end of the mission. Cooperations with other companies and further acquisitions are planned to expand the portfolio even further.
