Supporting a clean and competitive hydrogen economy

Green hydro­gen is con­sid­ered key to the decar­boniza­tion of many sec­tors and a core ele­ment of the ener­gy tran­si­tion. The Euro­pean Alliance for Clean Hydro­gen plays a cru­cial role in imple­ment­ing the EU’s hydro­gen strategy.

Valuable contribution to sustainable development

The Alliance is an ini­tia­tive of the Euro­pean Com­mis­sion. It brings togeth­er stake­hold­ers from indus­try, sci­ence, pub­lic author­i­ties and civ­il soci­ety. In this way, it mobi­lizes resources and devel­ops an invest­ment agen­da that pro­motes the pro­duc­tion and use of renew­able hydro­gen and builds a con­crete project pipeline. This aims to lay the foun­da­tion for a sus­tain­able and com­pet­i­tive indus­tri­al hydro­gen ecosys­tem in the EU.

Hydro­gen is the most viable alter­na­tive to fos­sil fuels and can enable the tran­si­tion to a CO2-neu­tral future in var­i­ous sec­tors. These include the oil and gas sec­tor and the chem­i­cal indus­try, but also sec­tors such as steel and cement pro­duc­tion, where avoid­ing emis­sions is par­tic­u­lar­ly dif­fi­cult. “Green hydro­gen is thus a key to the ener­gy tran­si­tion,” adds Jens Hun­drieser, Region­al Indus­try Man­ag­er Europe Ener­gy & Metal.

Comprehensive range for hydrogen applications

The com­pa­ny already has a broad port­fo­lio of prod­ucts for the crit­i­cal process mea­sure­ment points in the pro­duc­tion, stor­age and use of hydro­gen. These include laser-based gas ana­lyz­ers for deter­min­ing gas qual­i­ty, as well as solu­tions for flow and lev­el mea­sure­ments in tanks con­tain­ing liq­uid hydrogen.

The instru­ments meet the high­est require­ments for process and envi­ron­men­tal safe­ty. Hydro­gen appli­ca­tions require, among oth­er things, instru­ments that can with­stand high process pres­sures of 1,000 bar and more or are suit­able for extreme tem­per­a­tures down to minus 253 degrees Cel­sius. “In the Euro­pean Clean Hydro­gen Alliance, we can learn togeth­er with our part­ners and fur­ther improve our range of prod­ucts and solu­tions for the hydro­gen econ­o­my,” says Paul Borggreve.
