The addition of 15V, 19V, 28V, 36V and 48V outputs and models with an integral fan to the TDK-Lambda brand series was announced by the TDK corporation. Rated at 400W with forced air cooling and 250W when convection cooled, the family now covers 12 to 48V outputs. A broad choice of mechanical configurations is also available, including open frame versions in the industry-standard 3” x 5” footprint.
When convection cooled, the power supply has a peak power capability of up to 400W. The duration period of that peak is up to 30 minutes (40°C ambient, 230Vac input) with a maximum duty cycle of 50% — considerably longer than most products on the market. This feature makes it ideal for medical applications with a relatively low quiescent power consumption and occasional peak demand, including hospital beds, dental chairs and incubators.
It has an 85 to 264Vac input range and an off-load power consumption of less than 1.3W, when the output is inhibited. As an option, the units can be fitted with a 5V 2A or 12V 1A standby voltage, remote on/off, remote sense, AC fail, and an output good signal.
The underside of the power supply is fitted into a thermally conductive, insulated plastic base (patent pending). This allows heat-generating power components to be conduction cooled via a cold plate or the system chassis. Other mechanical configurations include a metal baseplate, U‑channel, enclosed or integral top-mounted fan.
Input to output isolation is 4,000Vac, input to ground isolation 1,500Vac and the output to ground isolation is 1,500Vac for suitability in B and BF rated medical equipment. Leakage current is a maximum of 250µA, and the touch current is less than 100µA. The operating, transportation and storage altitude is up to 5,000m, which supports global use and sales of end-equipment.
