Grundfos is launching the Condition Monitor CMU for tracking pump health and alerting to possible process failures in all applications using CR multistage pumps. The offering is designed for industrial applications such as water treatment, temperature control and process industries, but also buildings and other applications.
The small, intelligent sensor tracks a pump’s activity and detects possible system faults, such as damaged bearings, dry-run events, cavitation, unbalance or water hammer. The Condition Monitor then alerts operators to potential process failures via a simple, user-friendly display via cloud-based apps or standard network control systems.
One example is bearing status: an alert turns yellow when a pump’s bearings begin to show mechanical damage. This allows operators to plan maintenance when it is most convenient. If the alert turns red, the unit is telling you to change the bearings as soon as possible to avoid downtime.
The Condition Monitor uses a single sensor mounted on the drain plug in the motor stool which makes it easy to retrofit. The sensor measures a range of key performance data via accelerometer, thermometer and ultrasound. In addition to a display on the pump itself, the unit connects to a variety of monitoring systems. It connects wirelessly to the Grundfos iSolutions Cloud, giving users the opportunity to set up remote alarms and activate a variety of Grundfos services. It also connects to SCADA/BMS/DCS systems through standard communication protocols.
